A couple ice cube trays, drops of food coloring and a bucket with cold water are all you need to learn about blending colors. Drop some red ice cubes in a bucket filled with water, then drop in the blue ice cubes. They can be played with, stirred, dropped, and splashed until they melt. What color does the water turn? Purple!
You can dump out the bucket and have your child try other colors or blend them all together to see what happens.
Supplies: I bought a couple ice cube trays and a yellow bucket form the dollar store, for a total of $3.
Preparation: Drop a single drop of food coloring into each section to make the different colored cubes and freeze. This activity takes a little preparation time, but once the cubes are frozen, you can pull it out anytime and let him play.
