♫ On the Fifth Day of Giving,
The kids helped me,
Pick up trash,
So we can enjoy the greenery. ♫
The parks in our city are kept relatively clean, but all it takes is swift wind to come blowing down the mountains onto the plains and you have a trash scattered across the ground. We’ve had days recently in which the wind is so strong that it blows over the trash cans before it can be collected. This results in empty milk cartons, tomato sauce soaked papers, and plastic bags being scattered all over our neighborhood and into community parks.
On one of these rather blustery days, we went over to one of our favorite local parks and walked around looking for all the trash to pick up. It was hanging out around the bushes and down around the water at the creek.
Gloves and trash bags in hand, we picked it up, collecting nearly one plastic bag full of trash. It’s hard to imagine there was that much of it out there.
Afterwards, the kids got to enjoy playing at the park, of course! 🙂
*As a side note, they were not to pick anything up until I ok’d it. Kids may not be able to recognize trash items versus harzardous items. Once I ok’d it, they could pick it up with their gloved hand and put it in the bag.
